Lagos – Ex-international, Mutiu Adepoju, on Wednesday said that the Super Falcons should be encouraged for their consistency, having qualified for the 10th edition of the Africa Women Nations Cup.
Adepoju, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos, urged administrators to give the team recognition like their male counterparts.
The Super Falcons were forced to a 1-1 draw by their Senegalese counterparts in the first leg of their Africa Women Nations Cup qualifier in Dakar on April 8.
The Falcons won the return leg 2-0 in Abuja on Tuesday, having an aggregate of 3-1, which sealed their place in the tournament.
“These ladies have always been consistent; they have always made sure that they qualify for every tournament; they have shown dedication over the years.
“They have won this championship back to back, which is highly commendable; a feat Super Eagles find difficult. There is a lot to be learnt from them,’’ Adepoju said:
NAN reports that the team has been participating in the championship since its inception in 1991 and has won on nine occasions.
On how the squabble in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) could affect the preparation for the women’s Nations Cup in Cameroon, Adepoju pleaded with football administrators to put their house in order.
“Honestly, this is becoming embarrassing; something has to be done to get a lasting solution.
“We can’t continue like this; there is no way it won’t affect the players if the situation is not addressed urgently,’’ he said. (NAN)
