Birnin Kebbi –  Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Monday condoled with the Kebbi State Government over the death of Alhaji Habibu Jega, former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly.

Tambuwal, who led a delegation of his cabinet and APC stalwarts from Sokoto, was received by Gov. Atiku Bagudu in Birnin Kebbi.

He expressed shock and devastation over the news of the death of the former speaker,, saying “I was very shocked and devastated when I heard of the death of the former speaker and acting Governor of Kebbi State.

“Habibu Jega was an honourable man, a leader and respected member of our great party who sacrificed his position for the betterment of the party at a time when the party was facing utmost challenges from the then ruling party.”

Tambuwal also described the deceased as an agent of change and liberator.

He said the deceased never hesitated to offer advice to leaders in Kebbi even if it would hurt them, and loved his people at the expense of his own comfort.

The Sokoto State Governor prayed to Allah to have mercy on the deceased and give the people the fortitude to bear the great loss.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the deceased was an acting governor in 2011 when the election of the former Gov. Saidu Dakingari was annulled.

Jega died last Friday in a ghastly motor accident along Birnin Kebbi-Kangiwa Road in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi.

He was recently appointed Special Adviser to Gov. Atiku Bagudu on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

The Sokoto State Governor also condoled with the people of Kebbi State, on behalf of Sokoto State people, over the inferno that gutted the Birnin Kebbi Central Market.

He said Sokoto State and Zamfara would discuss modalities on how to assist victims of the inferno.

In his remarks, Gov. Bagudu thanked the Sokoto State Governor for the visit and promised to work closely with the two neighbouring states for the socio-economic and educational development of their states. (NAN)
