Abuja – A Gudu Upper Area Court in the FCT, on Wednesday, sentenced a 29-year-old man, Abdulkadir Audu to six weeks imprisonment for criminal breach of trust.
The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, however, gave Audu, an Islamic teacher, an option of N7,000 fine and warned him against committing further crime crimes.
Audu, an Islamic teacher at Shagari Mosque, Garki, Abuja was convicted for a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and misappropriation.
According the prosecutor, Mr Mohammed Garba, one Alkali Mohammed of Area 1, Garki , Abuja, had reported the matter at the Garki police station on Aug. 23.
According to Garba, the complainant’s sister, one Jamila Alkali, gave the accused her laptop valued N250,000 on June 1, to assist her to edit a typed document contained in a flash drive.

He also told the court that the accused, however, disappeared with the laptop, until Jamila saw him in Garki, Abuja on Aug. 23.

Garba said that during police investigation, Audu confessed that he sold the said laptop to an unidentified person in Lagos at the rate of N50,000 and converted the money to his personal use.
He said the offence contravened sections 312 and 309 of the penal code.
Audu, who pleaded guilty to the charge, pleaded for leniency. (NAN)
