On Thursday, April 4, suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a deadly ambush along the Biu-Buratai-Buni Yadi road in Nigeria, claiming the lives of at least five military personnel, including a lieutenant officer, a driver, a gunner, and four other soldiers whose identities have been withheld.
The incident occurred on a route that has become notorious for frequent attacks in recent times, according to Vanguard News.
Reports indicate that the attack took place near Kamuya village, just a few kilometers from Buratai, the hometown of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (Retired). Unconfirmed sources suggest that several terrorists were killed during an exchange of gunfire with troops.
A security source confirmed the incident, stating that soldiers from the 135 Special Force Battalion Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Buratai were ambushed while en route to Damaturu, the capital of Yobe state, to purchase fuel. The attack resulted in the tragic loss of one officer, a driver, a gunner, and four escort personnel.
The ambush underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by Nigeria, particularly in the northeastern region, where Boko Haram insurgents continue to carry out deadly attacks despite efforts by the military to contain the insurgency.
