Ile-Ife (Osun) – An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court sitting in Osun on Thursday remanded a 32-year-old man, Olarinde Olaide, in prison over alleged theft of vehicle batteries valued at N128, 000.
The accused is to remain behind bars pending the consideration of his bail application, Magistrate Ishola Omisade, ruled.
The accused is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing to which he pleaded not guilty.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, ASP Mathew Numoipre, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 2 at 7.00 a.m. at Mayfair, Ile-Ife.
Numoipre said the accused conspired with others still at large to steal four vehicle batteries valued at N128,000.
He said the owners of the stolen batteries had not been established.
The offences contravened Sections 383 (9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun.
The defense counsel, Mr Ben Adirieje, applied for the bail for the accused, saying he will not jump bail if granted.
But the magistrate did not grant the accused bail and ordered his remand at Ile-Ife Prisons pending the consideration of the bail.
The case was adjourned until April 13. (NAN)
