A tragic incident unfolded when a Nigerian Army patrol vehicle collided with a Keke Napep rider, resulting in three fatalities and several injuries, according to eyewitness Adamu Hassan.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the bustling Garin Alkali market, located in Gashua, the headquarters of the Bade Local Government Area of the state.
Following the collision, Keke Napep riders organized protests, obstructing main roads leading to Gashua. In response, the angered army personnel reportedly fired shots, injuring some protesters who were subsequently taken to the Specialist Hospital in Gashua for treatment.
Sources at the hospital reported receiving several casualties, including deceased individuals, although the exact count remains unspecified.
Ibrahim Babagana, Chairman of the Bade Local Government Area, confirmed three deaths and multiple injuries resulting from the clash between Keke Napep riders and the Army. He assured efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions.
As of the report’s filing, the Commander of Sector 2, Joint Task Force Operation Hadin Kai, had yet to issue a statement.
Gashua, located 187 kilometers from the state capital Damaturu, served as the backdrop for this unfortunate incident.
