Lagos – Eliazabeth Braimoh of Topfield College Apapa, on Friday won the maiden U-17 World Record Monopoly competition, tagged “City of Lagos Monopoly Game’’ at the Indoor Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition, for primary and secondary schools in Lagos State, was played by 1,300 students drawn from across the state.
The organisers of the competition had earlier predicted a world record event which was eventually realised as students trooped out en-masse to participate.
The winner, playing in a competition for the first time got the grand prize of N600,000 and other educational support items from the co-sponsors of the event.
Some of the co-sponsors are GTBank Plc., First Bank of Nigeria Plc., and online marleting company, OLX.
The grand prize winner played the property value of 11, 260 and cash value of 6,354, tolling 17,614.
Also, Al-Amin Ojo of Boys Junior School, Lagos Island, emerged first and won the N500,000 cash prize.
He scored the property value of 5,430, cash value of 8,169, securing a total of 13, 599.
Precious Nwakaeze of Topfield also emerged second with the property value of 4,620 and cash value of 4, 557, totalling 12, 232.
An elated Braimoh, said she was happy to win the championships, adding that it would spur her to take up more challenging games in the future.
“I want to continue playing Monopoly which I found very challenging and educating. I thank my teachers who put me through in the game,’’ she said.
