LAGOS – A 34-year-old trader, Leonard Nzuteigbo, who allegedly produced fake Alteco 110 Super Glue, was on Tuesday arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Nzuteigbo, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a four-count charge of conspiracy, forgery, impersonation and production of fake product.
The prosecutor, Insp. Rita Momah, told the court that the accused and others still at large, between 2013 and when he was arrested at the Trade Fair Complex, Lagos, posed as manufacturers of Alteco 110 Super Glue.
“He and his accomplices forged the Alteco patent trade mark on the super glue and sent it to a company in China for production, with the intention to deceive the general public,” she said.
Momah said the offences contravened Sections 409, 361, 378 and 3(1) of the Merchandise Act and punishable under Section 3(c) of the same Merchandise Act, Laws of Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Nzuteigbo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till Jan. 21 for trial (NAN)
