Tragedy struck the Kuchiko community in the Bwari Area Council of the FCT as an Abuja-bound train from Kaduna State inadvertently caused the demise of twin toddlers, Hassana and Hussaina Barau. The heartbreaking incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Saturday, leaving the community reeling in shock.
According to Andrew Dogonyaro, a community leader, the twins, who were eagerly anticipating their upcoming second birthday in July, ventured out of their home unnoticed and found themselves on the railway track. Despite efforts by a concerned individual to rescue them upon spotting them from a distance and the blaring horns of the oncoming train, tragedy struck before they could be safely removed from harm’s way.
The incident was promptly reported to the authorities, with initial notifications made to the police outpost in Sabon-Bwari and later to the Sabon-Wuse Division in Tafa LGA of Niger State. Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, confirmed the heartbreaking occurrence, identifying the victims as one-year-and-six-month-old Hassana and Hussaina Barau.
Expressing condolences to the grieving family, Abiodun assured that the matter would be thoroughly investigated by the Railway Division in Kubwa, Abuja, to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident and take necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
