Lapai – Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has inducted as teachers 267 graduands of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, who passed out with Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
The Registrar of the Council, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, represented by the Director, Professional Operations, Alhaji Ibrahim Roni, said at the ceremony, that TRCN was poised to restore the lost glory of the teaching profession.
He noted that teachers were the main determinants of quality in education, adding that if they were “apathetic, uncommitted, uninspired, lazy, unmotivated, immoral and antisocial”, the nation would be doomed.
“If teachers are ignorant in their disciplines and impact wrong information, they are not only useless but dangerous.
“The kind of teachers’ trained and posted to schools may well determine what the next generation will be.”
Ajiboye said that the task of building a high standard education system that would improve students’ performance as successful and confident learners, must be achieved by all stakeholders in the education industry.
He added that the skill and knowledge the inductees had gained would enhance their competence and enable them to provide value added service to those who would depend on them as educators.
Earlier, the Registrar advised the inductees to take the oath seriously, as breaching it would attract sanctions.
“The oath of administration is meant to symbolise induction of all new graduates into the profession; please note that any breach of the law, particularly on oath, calls for sanctions.
“By this event of today all inductees are accepted into the profession without the rigours of undergoing all the cycles of professional qualification Examination,” he said.
Similarly, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof Mohammad Maiturare, urged the inductees to abide by ethics, norms and values of the teaching profession.
“As you take your induction today, please make constant commitment to ensure you live up to the ideals of sacrifice and service for the progress of humanity which the teaching profession represents,” Maiturare said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the inductees comprised the 2015 and 2016 sets of graduands. (
