One pupil was crushed and two others injured in a multiple auto crash at Ikota area of Ajah, Lagos on Monday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Spokesperson for the Police in Lagos, DSP Ngozi Braide, who confirmed the incident, said the child was crushed at about 8a.m.on her way to school.
She said the accident involved one Mercedes Benz car, a water tanker and a black Toyota Prado SUV.
“Preliminary enquiry revealed that while the Prado SUV gave way for pupils to cross the road, the water tanker ran into the children, killing the pupil instantly.
“Two others were injured and currently receiving treatment at a hospital’’, Ngozi said.
She said some youths, infuriated by the incident, barricaded the Lekki/Ajah Expressway.
The spokesperson said that the protesters attributed their grievances to incessant accidents and lack of pedestrian bridge which they had been asking for.
She said the situation had, however, been brought under control with the quick intervention of the police in the area.
