newi (Anambra)-The President of FC Ifeanyi Ubah of Nnewi, Ifeanyi Ubah, has promised that the club will make a remarkable performance in continental club soccer if it clinches a ticket.
Ubah told sports writers in Nnewi on Saturday that the soccer team was being energised to ensure that the old glory of Nigeria in African football competition was re-enacted.
He expressed the hope that the team would qualify for one of the next continental soccer competitions.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the “Anambra Warriors’’ as fondly called, have double chances of being on the continent as they are already in the finals of the Federations Cup.
The team is currently in third place on the NPFL table with 53 points.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah, with three points adrift the league leaders, Rivers United, would on Sept. 18 take their good runs of one loss from 16 games to Makurdi against Lobi Stars FC.
Ubah also expressed the confidence that the partnership with English Premier League side, Westharm United, would be successful.
He said that his team had done well in the NPFL within its two years of formation in spite of the challenges confronting soccer clubs owned mainly by state governments.
“We are working toward bringing glory to Nigeria from the continent because Nigerian football ruled Africa at a time.
“We are hopeful that with the way we are performing, we shall compete on the continent.
“FC Ifeanyi Ubah is private club that has done well in two years considering that we are competing in a league of club sides that are owned and financed by state governments.
“We are into serious partnership with Westham of England, that is part of our strategy to bring glamour to what we are doing; hoping to go continental with Westham United jersey colours,’’ he said.
NAN reports that FC Ifeanyi Ubah would be playing CROWN FC on Sept. 28, in the Semi Final match of the Federation Cup.
