The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) has informed Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) about alleged safety regulation violations by Air Peace, a Nigerian carrier, just three months after it launched its Lagos-London route.
According to reports, the UK CAA forwarded two mandatory occurrence reports concerning Air Peace to the NCAA, prompting the Nigerian aviation authority to seek clarification from the airline.
In a letter titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report” dated May 14, 2024, and signed by Capt. O.O. Lawani, the General Manager of Operations at NCAA, the authority highlighted concerns raised by the UK CAA. These concerns included the use of Electronic Flight Bags (EFB) without operational approval, lack of proper mounting devices, charging points, or backup batteries for EFBs, which could affect the safe operation of the aircraft.
Air Peace, which recently began operations to London Gatwick from Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Nigeria and the UK, is expected to provide clarification on these issues.
Efforts to reach Air Peace spokesperson Stanley Olisa for comment were unsuccessful, as calls went unanswered and text messages remained unanswered.
