Abakaliki – Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi has denied culpability in a motor accident which claimed one life on Kubwa expressway in Abuja on Tuesday.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Emma Anya the governor’s Chief Press Secretary and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Abakaliki.
The statement said that it was unfortunate that the governor’s convoy was being linked to the crash.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that an Abuja-based national newspaper had reported that Umahi’s convoy caused the accident on Kubwa expressway.
“We are linked to the accident because it reportedly took place few seconds before the vehicles in the convoy entered the Kubwa highway.

“No vehicle in the convoy obstructed traffic on the said road, much less causing the said accident,” the statement said, adding that the crash took place some metres away from the governor’s convoy.
The statement said that a police account of the accident quoted by the newspaper, said that the vehicle skidded off a bridge and fell into a ditch.
It quoted the governor as refuting the newspaper’s report that a protocol officer attached to his office spoke with a national newspaper.
“The governor is, however, saddened that the occupant of the vehicle, Malam Mukaila Inakakana, died as a result of the accident,” the statement said. (NAN)
