ABUJA – The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) has donated materials for the prevention of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) to the Lagos State Ebola Emergency Operation Committee.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, Mr Oluseyi Soremekun, the National Information Officer of UN Information Centre, said the materials would boost the efforts at eliminating the disease.
The statement said that the agency also commended both the Federal and Lagos State Governments for containing EVD from further spread.
“The efforts of both governments were being recognised globally as a success story from which other countries should learn from,’’ it said.
The statement listed the materials as 10,000 copies of books on standard information for EVD contact self-care and 10,000 copies of books on screened suspected EVD patients in healthcare facilities. The statement quoted UNFPA Country Representative, Ms Rati Ndhlovu, as saying that the materials would strengthen public sensitisation to the mode of spread of the disease as part of measures to prevent a relapse.
Ndhlovu commended the Lagos State Government for its quick response to contain further the break of EVD.
She also commended the state government for the speed with which it handled the index case and all the emergency measures put in place to prevent further spread. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
