Activities resumed on Monday at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) in Gwagwalada, FCT, following the suspension of the 55-day-old strike embarked upon by doctors nationwide.
The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) on Sunday, suspended its strike and directed all doctors to resume work on Monday.
NMA’s President Kayode Obeme announced the suspension, saying that negotiations would continue with the Federal Government.
A visit to UATH by NAN confirmed the resumption of duty by doctors.
Although the strike had been suspended, only a few of the doctors were seen attending to patents who visited the hospital. [eap_ad_1] UATH’s Public Health Relations Officer (PRO), Mr Frank Omagbon, who confirmed the development to NAN, said that more doctors would resume duty by Tuesday.
Some of the patients who spoke to NAN expressed happiness over the suspension of the strike.
A patient, Mr Anebi Ofu, commended NMA for suspending the strike and urged the association and government to find a lasting solution to the crisis so as to forestall future recurrence.
Another patient, Hajiya Ramatu Bello, expressed joy at the development, adding that she preferred the public hospitals for their efficiency and low cost.
“ I was receiving treatment here at a cheaper rate before the strike, but started paying more at one of the private hospitals in the area during the action.
“Thank God the strike has been suspended, I am here to continue my treatment,’’ she said. (NAN)
