Zawan – Miss Lovelyn Dabot, a final year student of the University of Jos, has donated sanitary pads to 100 students of Zawan Community Secondary School, Jos to mark her 27th birthday.
Dabot, who studies Administration and Planning in the Faculty of Education, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Jos that the gesture was to ameliorate the sufferings of young women in the society.
“I chose to celebrate my birthday with my younger sisters here; instead of eating and drinking, I have donated sanitary pads that will help them to become better women tomorrow.
“When I was in secondary school like them, sanitary pads were sold for as low as N150, but it goes for between N400 and N500 today.
“Most of these girls cannot afford it and have resorted to tissue papers which is very dangerous to their personal hygiene
“This gesture is my little way of supporting the younger ones to take their personal hygiene seriously,” she said.
Dabot advised the students to take their studies seriously so as to become become assets to the society and contribute their quota to its growth.
