Awka – Activities of vandals and leakages along the pipelines connected to the Enugu Petroleum Depot have been blamed for the inability of the facility to come back to life.
Mr Ahmed Gwaran, the Operations Controller at the Enugu office of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Thursday.
NAN reports that the Enugu depot had been moribund for about 11 years.
According to him, if the Enugu depot is functional, the distribution of petroleum products in South-East region and Benue will have been seamless and fast.
He said repair works recently commenced on the depot by a team of NNPC engineers but that the damage caused by vandals and corrosion from long standing inactivity had resulted in serious leakages.
He expressed regrets that marketers in the zone had been hiding under the excuse of loading from other depots to flout the directive on the new approved price of N86.50 for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Gwaran said that the DPR would continue to enforce the new price regime until it achieved full compliance by marketers.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He urged all stakeholders to report any depot that sold above the approved price of N77 to the DPR for appropriate action. (NAN)
