PORT HARCOURT (Sundiata Post) – Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike pn Thursday urged Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), to ignore those criticising him.
Obi, who was at the occasion in company of his running mate, Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, was in Port Harcourt at the invitation of Wike to commission the Nkpolu-Oroworokwo Flyover in Port Harcourt.
Wike, who was speaking during the inauguration of the flyover, said those criticising Obi were ‘envious’.
“We have worked and you know we have worked. One reason I also brought you (Obi) is that I know you also worked well in Anambra,” Wike told Obi.
The governor told Obi that most of the people envying him are from his state. “Some people because of the level you are now, they are envying you in your state. They can come out and say all kind of rubbish. Don’t worry, that is how it is; it is your home person that will kill you first, so don’t bother about those things.
“I have always told people when you are given opportunity, use it to showcase what you can do, stop criticising somebody who has left, you have been given the opportunity now show it. I am a professor, professor well, I am a doctor, doctor well, I am a lawyer, lawyer well, I am a mechanic, mechanic well,” the governor said.
Wike’s comment is coming few days after Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo in an opinion article, had berated the performance of Peter Obi while he (Obi) was Governor of the state.
Soludo who said that the investments left behind by Peter Obi are worth next to nothing added that Obi can’t win the presidential election.
According to Soludo, only “two persons/parties are seriously contesting for president”.
