Bauchi (Bauchi State)- Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Hillary Okpara said vigilantes and unauthorised personnel in uniform would be allowed to operate in polling units during Saturday’s general elections.
Okpara made the statement in Bauchi on Friday while dispatching police personnel to various local government areas in the state.
He said the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sulaiman Abba, had provided enough men to be posted to the local government areas in the country.

“The I-G has provided adequate personnel to be used to secure polling units, men and materials, including the general public during the election.
Security agencies, including Customs, Immigration, NSCDC, FRSC and Prison staff are all mobilised for this job”, he added.
According to him, any person found at the polling units wearing unauthorised uniform would be arrested and prosecuted.
He also said that adequate arrangement was also made to secure Internally Displaced Persons to cast their votes to choose leaders they liked.
The DIG added that the security personnel were all motivated and trained for the job, saying; “voters should feel free to go to polling units to cast their votes without any fear of molestation.”
Okpara is in charge of zones 13 and 2 which include Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, Adamawa, Borno and Taraba States. (NAN)
