LAGOS – Some young talents at the ongoing Junior Golf Challenge at Ikoyi Club, Lagos, said on Thursday that Tiger Woods, the world’s no.1 golfer, had inspired them.
Eleven-year-old Onome Eviemere told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN): “Woods has inspired me a lot and I intend to make a fortune out of the sport.
“I choose golf because the sport pays better, its more rewarding financially, and I like Woods because he brought golf to global reckoning.
“I want to be greater than him, and my mum said he is a great golf player too, he inspires me too.’’
Sharing similar view is Shivan Mohinani of India, who said that he decided to play golf because it helped him to relax.
“I love the serene environment, it helps me to relax and focus on school work which is important to me now.
“Watching on television and seeing great players like Woods play makes me believe that there is nothing I cannot achieve with dedication,’’ he said .
Hyunwoo Ra of China also described golf as the most peaceful sport and expressed the hope to win.
“I play football too and other sports but golf is what I love most and I have the support of my parents which is important for me to succeed.’’
Africa’s young golfer champion, Osiregbemi Egbakome, said his parents did not play golf, but that he loved the game and looked up to golfers like Woods.
“I love golf and I hope to be famous for playing golf someday soon. I have all it takes and with more exposure I will get there,’’ he said.
