Abuja- A Wuse Zone 2 Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced Musa Abdullahi to four weeks imprisonment for theft.
Senior Magistrate Nuhu Tukur who sentenced him after he pleaded guilty to the charge, however, gave the convict an option to pay N5,000 fine.
Tukur warned Abdullahi to desist from committing crime, and ordered the convict to pay N100,000 compensation to the complainant.
Prosecutor Gabriel Peter had told the court that Saidu Musa of Mpape, Abuja, reported the matter at the Mpape Police Station on Aug. 8.
He said that the convict who is a friend to the complainant visited him in his house and stole the sum of N100,000 from the 160,000 that the complainant had in his saving box.
The prosecutor said that the convict stole the money when they complainant was in the kitchen cooking for them.
He said that during police investigations the convict denied but later confessed stealing the money.
Peter said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.
Abdullahi of Gwari village, Abuja, who pleaded guilty, also begged for leniency, saying that he would not do it again.
