The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) shared details of an encounter with former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, regarding an agency probe.
During a discussion with select editors in Abuja, the anti-graft chairman revealed his decision to personally engage Bello out of respect for his previous position. Initially, Bello attributed the probe to political opponents orchestrating a media spectacle at the EFCC headquarters.
However, upon offering Bello exclusive access and a private interrogation, the narrative shifted. Despite efforts to resolve the matter diplomatically, Bello declined, suggesting the interrogation be conducted in his village.
Recounting the day EFCC officials surrounded Bello’s residence in Abuja, the chairman highlighted the tense standoff between EFCC personnel and armed policemen. The situation was defused upon Bello’s arrival, leading to a change in the unfolding events.
