One ‘challenge’ I usually faced about a year ago when discussing this government (outside the social media, real life) is how some of my very educated and learned friends used find it difficult to believe that certain things could happen under General Mohammadu Buhari.
Almost two years ago, I have been hearing about how top government officials were cleaning out and YET shouting to high heavens how Jonathan and PDP stole the nation blind.
For instance, Babachir Lawal had been using his companies to make a kill from the IDP funds since 2015. The MTN saga died a natural death. Ask the chief of staff. Let them tell you what happened to the capital vote for the ministry of interior for 2016. Or why the President invited Wamakko to a meeting over the Baru/NNPC probe. One can go on.
The greatest intellectual harm you can do yourself is to believe this government is fighting corruption.
It took the Baru/Kachikwu saga, the Maina debacle and the Babachir grass-cutting jamboree for some of these friends of mine to believe there were indeed no saints anywhere.
But they always have one consolation: “It could have been worse under Jonathan.”
However when they say this, you could see they don’t even sound convincing to themselves talk less of others…
