ABUJA (Sundiata Post) Mr. Falana, SAN, said there was no division in APC to warrant defections from the party. According to legal giant, the present division in APC is fictional and figment of the ‘decampees” imaginations. He added that when people decamped from APC, there was a clear division in PDP as Modu-Sherrif and Makarfi factions were in the party.
My Take
Sir, you are correct but wrong in your timelines.
- Five governors and a couple of senators walked out of PDP convention of August 31, 2013. They said they were nPDP.
- There were negotiations to bring them back but they never came back to PDP as they joined APC mid-2014.
- Mr. Falana, the Ali Modu-Sheriff you mentioned was a full member of APC during the nPDP crisis of 2013/14. He was one of those who followed the party to visit Obasanjo in December 2013!
- Modu-Sheriff returned to PDP AFTER Buhari had emerged President and not BEFORE. So those who left PDP did NOT leave because of the crisis involving Modu-Sheriff and Markarfi. They left to join APC even when Modu-Sheriff was still there. The crisis between Sheriff and Makarfi was between 2015 and 2016.
- If those who left PDP then could use the nPDP faction as excuse, those who left APC in 2018 too could use the rAPC crisis as excuse too.
Having said this, you may defend APC where your friends are. But always get your facts right sir.
