Labour Party’s presidential contender, Mr. Peter Obi, recently shed light on the malfunctioning of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) servers during the 2023 presidential election. He attributed this failure to what he described as the “establishment of criminality.”
Addressing concerns regarding the 2023 elections, including the IREV servers, during a gathering in Canada, Obi stressed the importance of heightened engagement with all stakeholders to ensure the effectiveness of the electoral system.
The former Anambra State governor pointed out that Amazon’s testimony indicated no global glitches on the day of the presidential election. He emphasized that, despite challenges, the electoral process must be made to function optimally through collaborative efforts.
Reflecting on the obstacles encountered in effecting change, Obi noted the inevitable resistance from entrenched interests associated with the old order. He cautioned against expecting immediate results, likening the journey of transformation to historical struggles witnessed globally, such as in India, South Africa’s Mandela era, and America. According to Obi, meaningful change demands perseverance and time, rather than occurring overnight.
I urge all of you: if you seek change, understand that our journey has only just begun. We must persevere and build upon the foundation we’ve laid.
While acknowledging that there are areas requiring correction, rest assured that we are actively addressing them, albeit without specific mention. This path won’t be without its challenges.
Regarding the INEC server, it’s crucial to recognize that its failure stemmed from the entrenched interests of the establishment. Despite efforts to sabotage its functionality, there were no reported glitches, as affirmed by Amazon. The absence of global records of malfunctions underscores our commitment to transparency and integrity in the electoral process.
Moving forward, it’s imperative that we overcome the obstacles posed by systemic criminality and ensure that the system functions as intended. Our determination will ultimately prevail, and together, we will make it work.
