ADO-EKITI – A 38-year-old housewife, Funmilayo Fagbamigbe, on Monday told an Ado-Ekiti Customary Court that she abandoned her matrimonial home because her husband threatened her with cutlass.
Funmilayo made this known when testified in a divorce petitioner which she sort for dissolution of her 14-year-old marriage to her husband, Akinlabi.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the case was first mentioned on May 19.
Funmilayo had in the petition urged the court to dissolve the union for alleged frequent beatings, threats to life and destruction of property by her husband.
She said that on a particular day, her husband threatened her life with a cutlass when they were arguing, adding that the cutlass made her to abandon the house.
She said her husband whenever they had quarrel beat her up with door stick, adding that there was a day he beat her up and it resulted into chest problem.
The mother of three told the court that her husband did not take care of her.
The petitioner said that she had reported him to the citizen right office, pointing out that it was there her first child told her that the respondent had burnt her belongings.
Funmilayo said there was another incident when her husband was sick and she took care of him.
She told the court that after Fagbamigbe’s recovery, he accused her of being responsible for his predicament and threatened to kill her with gun.
The respondent was absent.
The court President, Mr Joseph Ogunsemi, adjourned the case to Jan.19, 2015 for judgment. (NAN)
