Ibadan – Activities picked up on Tuesday at both the Federal and State Secretariats in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, as civil servants resume work after the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that government had declared Friday Sept. 1 and Monday Sept. 4 as public holiday to mark the Sallah.
A NAN correspondent who monitored activities at the Federal Secretariat situated at Ikolaba and the State Secretariat in Agodi, reports that scores of civil servants were at their offices as early as 7.45 a. m.
Some of the workers at the Federal Secretariat were seen exchanging pleasantries, while others were busy cleaning their tables and chairs in their respective offices.
At the office of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC), most of the workers were settled and ready for the day’s work.
Mrs Sylvia Okoro, a NAFDAC staff, said she was excited to be back to work, adding that she used the long break to rest and devote quality time with her family.
Also, Mrs Olufunke Ishola, the State Head of the Raw Materials and Research Centre, said all the members of staff of the centre were already at their duty posts.
“The Federal Government had done its part by allowing workers to maximally enjoy the holiday.
“It now behoves on the public servants to report to work with vigor for optimal performance,” she said.
At the state secretariat, some civil servants who came late were seen rushing to their respective offices.
Mr John Oladeji, a security officer, however, told NAN that a sizable number of workers reported early.
“Some workers came early, but it is not strange that many of them came late.
“This is due to the fact that most of them, who travelled to their home towns, are just returning this morning,” said Oladeji.
NAN also observed that commercial activities had picked up in the city as taxis, tricycles and commercial motorcycle operators were busy conveying passengers to different destinations unlike during the holidays when the streets were virtually empty of traffic.
