Lagos- The Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos, is intensifying training ahead of the 18th edition of the Nigeria Polytechnic Games slated for Dec. 4 to Dec. 16 in Bida, Niger.
The institution’s Athletics Coach, Uruemu Adu, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.
He said that the school would be featuring 25 track and field athletes with the aim of dominating the Games.
Adu, also an Assistant Athletics Coach with the Lagos State Sports Council, said that he was asked to help the school to win many medals.
“We are not leaving any stone unturned to ensure better results at the Games,’’ he told NAN.
He noted that some of the athletes were greenhorns, but expressed the hope that they would perform well.
“The compact training sessions that started two weeks ago have made the athletes to exhibit uncommon skills that can stand out in any competition,” the coach said.
He said that the team had been given a target to surpass the school’s record at the 17th edition of the competition in Ede, Osun.
According to him, more attention is being given to sprinters because the school intends to use athletics to gain more medals at the tournament.
“Training is being administered to the athletes to put them in the right frame to supplant opponents of any class.
“The school’s eight gold, 10 silver and 18 bronze medals at the Ede Games will be exceeded at the Bida Games,’’ he said. (NAN)
