The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the award is to honour the families of late Justice Bashir Sambo, Hauna Soba, Adamu Dikko, Clara Victoria, Dan’azumi Kudan, Shu’aibu Makarfi and Adamu Nok for their contributions to the development of education in Kaduna State.
Yero observed that “quality of education lies in the ability to have qualified teachers who can effectively inculcate knowledge on their pupils.
The governor said that no amount was too much to invest on education, although the result would not manifest immediately.
“No matter how much you invest in education, you cannot see the result immediately until about 10 to 15 years later.
“Education is second to security in terms of priority in this administration and let me assure you that we will continue to invest in education,” he said.
Presenting a pepper entitled: “Education Our Future, We need Quality”, Mr Mataimaki Tom-Maiyashi said that performance of students in WAEC and NECO was not a yardstick for measuring the quality of education.
Tom-Maiyashi, who is also a former commissioner in the state and guest speaker at the occasion, observed that every child, irrespective of his disadvantages must be provided with quality education.
While calling for training of special teachers who would handle larger classes, the guest speaker advocated regular inspection of colleges of education to correct some anomalies.
The Director of the college and former Permanent Secretary in Kaduna State, Hajiya Rakiya Musa, said that efforts were being made to transform the college into a private university.
She identified some challenges hindering the growth of the college to include rehabilitation and expansion of laboratories as well as expansion of the site.
Musa solicited intervention from the State Government to enable the college to discharge its responsibilities effectively. (NAN)
