Damaturu – The Yobe Police Command on Wednesday said it had intensified public engagement among youths in the state to curb the wanton use of teenagers as suicide bombers.
Toyin Gbadegeshin, the command’s spokesman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Damaturu that the command had engaged students, youth groups and artisans to appreciate the sanctity and respect for human lives.
“We are now working on other vulnerable groups for discussions on how to protect them from being used as suicide bombers and as agents of other nefarious activities,“he said.
“The Operation Know Your Nieghbour” campaign launched by the state command had yielded positive results in monitoring of activities in the neighborhoods.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“The command is glad with the response from residents on the Operation Know Your Neighbour scheme which has contributed positively to intelligence gathering of the command,“he said.
He said the command had also reviewed it’s security strategy to improve on more proactive approach in the fight against insurgency and other crimes.
The police spokesman solicited for improved cooperation with early provision of useful information to save lives and property across the state.
Toying commended law abiding citizens for their cooperation, assuring that the police would continue to ensure security of lives and property. (NAN)
