Abuja (Sundiata Post) – President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Mahmud Yakubu will explain what led to the postponement of the polls after the elections.
The president disclosed this during the All Progressives Congress caucus meeting held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Monday.
Sundiata Post recalls that the Independent National Electoral Commission had, less than six hours to the commencement of the elections slated for the 16th of February and 2nd March respectively, announced the postponement by one week.
The INEC cited logistic issues, destruction of some voting materials and weather condition as reason for the postponement of the polls as the electoral materials were not able to get to the some states and locations in good time.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adam Oshiomhole called for the removal of the INEC boss, Prof Mahmud Yakubu.
According to Oshiomhole, he cannot but second Secondus, the National Chairman of the main opposition PDP to call for the removal of the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission for postponing the election.
Oshiomhole who said that the APC will go ahead with the campaign, insisted that INEC has no powers to make law and therefore has no right to directed that parties should not continue with campaign.
He stressed that it is a huge risk to ignore all the rumour s behind the postponement of the election by INEC, adding that it was done in connivance with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The National Chairman accused INEC giving PDP prior notice of the postponement of the February 16 election and not to waste their money for the said poll last Saturday.
He also called for the reposting of the residence electoral commissioners who he said has served in some areas for a long period of time especially in the south-south.
