Port Harcourt – Mr Marvin Yobana, African representative in the World Youth Assembly (WYA), has urged Ogoni leaders to unite against injustice and insecurity in their area.
Yobana told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday that recent negative events in parts of Ogoni were worrisome.
He said that alleged killing of innocent Ogonis and the attack on Sen. Magnus Abe liaison office in Bori was a ploy to destabilise the Ogonis.
“All Ogoni leaders, including myself, should come together to take a decision on the ugly development in our land.
“I am calling on the Supreme Council of Ogoni leaders, the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) and other leaders no matter the political divide to meet and bring peace,” he said.
Yobana also condemned militarisation of the area and called on the relevant authorities to redeploy the military out of Ogoni.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“I am not against security agents going after suspected criminals but am opposed to it when their action is taking the lives of innocent people,” he said.
The youth leader urged political leaders in the area not to allow people use them to cause mayhem in Ogoni communities.
“Our focus should be how to elect credible representatives that will effectively champion timely implementation of United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Report on Ogoni land,” he said. (NAN)
