Zumunta association urges 19 Northern Governors to take steps to end terrorism

New York  – Dr Ibrahim Salau, National President, Zumunta Association an NGO in U.S., has urged governors of the 19 northern states in Nigeria to take practical steps to end terrorism and violent extremism.

Salau, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent in New York on Friday, while reacting to the double suicide attack carried out by suspected Boko Haram elements on Tuesday in the Dikwa Camp in Borno , north-eastern Nigeria.

The president also called on the governors to develop strategies for bringing peace to the region.

“We must work together to bring succour to the victims of these attacks. The situation is a huge blow on education in the North.
“The attacks have kept many children out of the classrooms,” he said.

NAN reports that Zumunta, is a Hausa word for Fellowship, and it is the umbrella association of 19 States in Northern Nigeria in America.

He said the group has a mission to assist in the development of Northern Nigeria technologically, socially and economically; to cater for members; preserve the rich and diverse culture of Nigeria and to improve the image of the country in the global arena.

“These series of attacks resulting in the killing of innocent citizens across the country with most of these occurring in northern Nigeria, is saddening.

“Our governors must take practical steps to end these attack.

“Our northern leaders of all political and economic persuasion must stand up and speak with one voice on these issues.

Salau commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his initiatives to check terrorism.

He called on the international community to support Buhari in the fight against the menace of the Boko Haram sect.

“We in the association endorse President Muhammedu Buhari’s various efforts to rid the nation of the Boko Haram sect, which has caused lot of havoc in the North East,”he added.(NAN)
