Lagos – The organisers of the upcoming April 1 to April 3 International Sports Convention have chosen as a central theme, “the impact of sports on African economies’’.
A statement released by Djamil Faye of CISA in Dakar and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Sunday, said the theme was specially chosen as the convention would celebrate its 10th year anniversary in Algiers, Algeria.
According to the statement, this is a crucial turning point for an event that has now become an international reference and a unique forum of its kind on the continent.
It also said that the CISA discussion segment would feature traditional themes like the fight against Doping as well as the organisation of major sporting events in the continent.
“Today, sport has become a real industry almost everywhere, with measurable data and an effective legal environment, while the economic impact of sport in most African countries remain largely unknown.
“What are the characteristics of sports business in Africa? What is the place of sports in the economies of counties in the continent? Is there any economic model for African sport?
The statement, then adds: “Is it realistic to adopt and adapt the current models in Africa? Who are the actors on the sporting stage in Africa? These are questions, among others that the CISA participants will try to answer’’.
It also said that the contribution of WADA Regional Office for Africa — the doping topic will discuss the International Anti-Doping Code Compliance.
The statement said Algeria would take the centre stage to deal with the issue of the organisation of major sporting events with the country positioning to be a destination for the major sporting events as they get ready to stage the 2018 Africa Youth Games and the 2021 Mediterranean Games. .
CISA adds that `the IOC Agenda 2020’ would also be discussed and participants would be expected to determine whether it is an open door for Africa?
The events would really commence on March 31 with arrival og guests to end on April 2 in Algiers with departures. (NAN)
