Lagos – The Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) on Monday said that 12 of its management staff would be attending an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Advanced Management Course in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the course, facilitated by the IOC in collaboration with the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) is expected to take place at the Command Guest House, Apapa.
The four days course is expected to run from April 12 April to April 15.
The Head, Sports Development, Research and Statistics, Nunayo Travih, told NAN that the course would enhance the knowledge of the participants in the technicalities of organising world class competitions.
“The course is an IOC advanced developmental course for capacity building and on the job schedule.
“Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode has graciously approved that 12 members of the management of the commission attend the course.
“The course is a modular one with the tendency to train management staff to become international managers in line with the vision of the government in making the state the sports hub in Africa.
“The training is expected to expose our staff to the rudiments of organising international competitions; remember that we recently held the Lagos Squash Classics, an international competition,’’ he said.
Travih added that the course would among other things bring to fore the knowledge of the technicalities of understanding the flow and requirements for organising world sports events.
“It is an opportunity for us to be more versed in the technicalities and organisational ethics, standards and requirements of holding world class competitions,’’ he said.
Earlier, the commission’s Chairman, Deji Tinubu, urged the beneficiaries to make full use of the opportunity given to them.
“The aim of this course is to help us to meet up with the international standards and best practices.
“At the end of this course, you should be able to work harder. We want to see the difference in you.
“This course is like training the trainers, you should be ready to train others too on what you have learnt in the course, you should be ready to pass the knowledge,’’ Tinubu said. (NAN)
