Munya (Niger) -No fewer than 14 women died in two separate boat mishaps in River Sarkin Pawa and River Guni in Munya Local Government Area of Niger on Monday.
Mr Bala Elikana, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, told the News Agency Nigeria (NAN), that “the police were aware of the incident.
“We have asked our Marine Police to get us detailed report of what transpired.’’
Elikana said the marine police was also meeting with boat owners and drivers in the area to ensure safety in the waterways.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 11 women of the same family in Dan Gunu village died in the mishap in river Sarkin Pawa in the area on Tuesday.

Three women from Guni village died in similar accident in river Guni in Munya Local Government Area.
NAN gathered that the accidents occurred in the two rivers that combined with river Kaduna to form the Shiroro dam while the victims were returning from farm on Monday evening.
NAN also gathered that the deceased women had gone to the farm to harvest groundnuts in company of two men who survived the accident.
Sources gave the names of some of the dead women as Munau, Wara, Fiddausi, Zainab, Najaatu, Ikilima, Fatima, Ladidi, Balaraba and Hafsat. (NAN)
