Lagos – For allegedly burgling a house to steal, two men, Destiny Ikechkwu and Ismael Isedini, were on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, Ikechukwu, 18, and Isedini, 24, whose residential addresses and occupations are not known, are being tried for conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
According to the Prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Awase, the accused committed the offences on Nov. 26 at Taiwo Close, Ikeja, Lagos.
He said that the accused conspired to burgle the residence of Mrs Oluwakemi Odunsanya and stole her phones and cash.
“The accused broke into the complainant’s apartment through the ceiling, stole a Techno phone valued at N35,000, Samsung phone worth N60,000 and cash of N100,000 totaling N195,000,” he said.
Awase said that the complainant was called by her neighbour who told her that the accused had burgled her apartment.
“The complainant went to church and she was called by one of her neighbours to come home that thieves had broken into her apartment.
“The accused were caught by neighbours when they jumped out from the complainant’s ceiling.
“The stolen items were recovered and they were handed over to the police,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section 307 prescribes seven years jail term for burglary.
The accused pleaded innocence and each were granted bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr J.A Adigun said that the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until Jan. 9 for mention.
