LAGOS – An Electioneering Group, Voters Awareness Initiative, on Tuesday said it had concluded plans to organise a debate for presidential and governorship candidates in the 2015 general election.
Mr Wale Ogunade, President, Voters Awareness Initiative, made this known while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

Ogunade said that the debate would provide the candidates and their parties with opportunities to highlight their manifestos to the electorate.
“By the grace of God, in the next few weeks, we will organise a debate for all political office seekers.
“That will be our own contribution towards the general election because we want the election to be issue based.

“We want to start the debate with the presidential candidates and also for gubernatorial candidates in Lagos State. We also hope to extend it to two other geopolitical zones if the funds are there,” Ogunade said.
Ogunade said Voters Awareness Initiative would partner with other like groups and the media to ensure that the debate was successful.

He said the issue of voter apathy had reduced drastically due to massive sensitisation and mobilisation from the Independent National Electoral Commission and other groups.
“You saw the interest and the intensity with which people wanted to get their permanent voter cards and to register.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10”]
“It is no more business as usual for our politicians, people want to speak with their votes and make sure that their votes count in the polls,” Ogunade said. (NAN)
