Lagos – Okey Emodi, former Chief Coach of Kano Pillars, on Tuesday said that good officiating accounted for the positive results secured by away teams in their first Nigerian Premier League matches.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the first league matches of the competition which kicked off on Feb. 21, produced unexpected results with four away wins.
Emodi, who coached Kano Pillars last season, said that the unexpected result was healthy for the league and good for the image of the League Management Company.
He said that the good number of the away wins had not been the tradition in the premier league since its inception.
“I think this is a sign of many good things to come, it also shows that we’re coming of age.
“This is a good publicity for the country and will also help in restoring the integrity of the league.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“The match officials are very competent and confident in doing their works. If were to be in the past, it cannot happen.
“But this time around, consider the games that were played across the centres; with no controversies, we have to thank the officials for improved officiating.
“The officiating was fantastic and I hope it would be sustained so that we will be happy for it,’’ said Emordi who had coached Rangers International FC of Enugu.
Emordi had also helped Enyimba International FC of Aba to win the CAF Champions League the second time. (NAN)
