Abuja (Sundiata Post) – Group under the auspices of Nigeria Anew Movement (NAMO), a nascent group of patriotic Nigerians with a vision to deepen democracy in Nigeria with the enthronement of credible leadership, has endorsed the presidential flag bearer of Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi as the candidate to support in the 2023 presidential election.

Sundiata Post gathered that the body, which announced the endorsement of Obi in Lagos at a recent press conference, said the best presidential candidate who has the integrity to fight corruption and grow the Nigerian economy, would be Peter Obi, judging from his antecedents, when he was the Governor of Anambra State.

The National President of NAMO, Alhaji Umar Sanda Adamu, who announced the endorsement of Peter Obi, decried the monumental loss of Nigeria’s potential, which he said the past leaders could not harness for the development of Nigerians and the Nigerian economy. He added that Nigeria needed a unifier, a leader with capacity, strength of character to guide the people.

In his words: “We require a leader who is untainted by endemic corruption; we need a clear thinker, a pragmatist and above all a bridge between the north and south, between the young and old generation. We need a leader bristling with ideas and a workable plan on how to fix our broken country. Nigeria is in dire need of a detribalized leader who will heal the wounds of the past, reinforce our diversity and deliver an all inclusive leadership in which no section of this great country feels hard done and left behind.

According to him, as the seventh most populous country in the world with over 20O million people, Nigeria’s potential and the promise it holds for shared prosperity is real and cannot be over emphasised. He however said unfortunately, successive administrations have been unable to transform this potential into real gains for the overall wellbeing of our people. Citing recent reports from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), and the World Bank, which focused in the future of Nigeria, her poverty and inequality levels, Adamu said several Nigerians were already languishing in poverty because of the inability of past leaders to harness the full potential of Nigeria.

“The hardship unleashed on our society by this economic downturn is further worsened by the deterioration of security across the six geopolitical zones particularly in the North-East, North- Central, North-West and South-East zones. No day passes without cases of kidnapping, murder, banditry, robbery and wanton killings. “The severity of these security challenges was captured by the National Security Adviser (ONSA), Major General Babagana Mungono (rtd),” Adamu said.

Adamu quoted Mungono in the National Security Strategy 2019 document released by his office as saying: “Security is the cornerstone of development and progress in a free society and that security is a guarantee of the wellbeing of citizens and stability of the state. It is also evident that the nature of insecurity facing Nigeria today is more complex than in the past.” Adamu however said the efforts of the present administration had not been able to contain these security challenges that have forced the average citizens to live in Constant fear. ”

Government’s efforts to stamp out corruption has not yielded the desired results and continues to fuel the state of insecurity in our country. Corruption is responsible for the widespread unemployment, poverty and instability in our country, Adamu said.

He added that NAMO would join other like-minded patriots to turn around the fortunes of Nigeria for the better. “After a thorough scrutiny of the record of leading political candidates and bearing in mind the significance of this moment, and what it holds for our dear country, we are strongly persuaded that Peter Obi, the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party is the most suited candidates to assume the presidency of this great country in 2023,” Adamu added. The time for us to reject ethnic politics is now. We need a clean break from the present system that has not worked for the vast majority of our people. We need a leader with the experience and the determination to change the present faulty system. And we believe that Obi is the best candidate for the job, Adamu further said.

National Chairman of NAMO, Chief Omife I Omife, said Nigeria suffered so much from the hands of its past leaders who do not have what it takes to create wealth for the country and jobs for the citizens. He said such past leaders have caused enormous damage to Nigeria as a nation over the years.

Sundiata Post recalls that “NAMO is a political movement that is supporting the candidacy of Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party, whom they strongly believe, has the integrity and all that it takes to return Nigeria from her lost path. Their mission is to have a new nation that is free from religious bigotry, that all Nigerians will be proud of “Omife said.
