3 businessmen charged with stealing N47.5m in Lagos

LAGOS (Sundiata Post) – Three businessmen were on Thursday arraigned by an Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing 375 bags of sesame seeds worth N47.5 million.
Ime Essien, 49; Nnamdi Obianuka, 36, and Chidera Stephen, 21, are the three men who are currently facing conspiracy and theft charges.

They were alleged to have committed the crime on August 8, 2023 at No. 9 Warf Road, Apapa, Lagos, according to the prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem.
Akeem claimed that the three men were employed by the complainant, Mr. Olubunmi Olumekun, to load and carry 375 bags of sesame seed, totaling 37.5 tonnes and worth N47.5 million.

The prosecutor also stated that the guys were tasked with delivering the bags of seed to various locations in Lagos and Ogun states. However, he claimed that the three men were unable to deliver the products, and that the complainant’s attempts to retrieve his goods were unsuccessful.
According to the prosecution, the charges were in violation of Sections 287 and 411 of the Lagos State Criminal Law from 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Bola Osunsanmi, granted the three men bail in the amount of N3 million each with two sureties in the same amount after they pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The magistrate then adjournex the case to October 23.
