LAGOS – Three salesmen, who allegedly stole N5.4 million from their employers, were on Friday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused — Dele Idowu, 36; Ademola Adebiyi, 35; and Opeyemi Odugbesan, 31 — are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
Idowu resides at No. 50, Ogbayo Road, Ijoko in Ogun, while Adebiyi lives at No. 4, NIDB Road, Erunwan in Ikorodu, Lagos, Odugbesan is a resident of No. 51, Akinwunmi St., Alagomeji, Yaba.
The prosecutor, Insp. Stephen Molo, told the court that the salesmen committed the offences with others still at large between January and March, 2013 at No. 5, Ajibore St., Mushin, Lagos.
He said the accused sold household disinfectants and bleach in bulk to clients on behalf of their employers — Teeone Ventures Ltd.
According to Molo, the accused failed to remit the money realised from the sale of the goods into the company’s accounts amounting to N5.4 million. [eap_ad_1] He alleged that Idowu, Adebiyi and Odugbesan stole N3.5 million, N1.5 million and N378, 000 respectively from the company.
“The fraud was discovered by the company’s managing director while going through the books.’’
Molo said the offences contravened Sections 285 (7) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 (7) prescribes a seven-year imprisonment on conviction.
The trio, however, pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs Linda Balogun, granted each of the accused bail in the sum of N1million with two sureties each in like sum.
The case has been adjourned to Oct. 15 for mention. (NAN)
