3 remanded in prison over alleged armed robbery

Ado-Ekiti  –  An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court on Wednesday ordered that three men, Adeleye Olusola, Friday Tunde and Olalekan Ajofoyinbo be remanded in prison custody over alleged armed robbery.

The police prosecutor, Sgt. Caleb Leranmo told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 18 at Ado-Ekiti.

He said that on that day, the accused, armed with offensive weapons such as guns and cutlasses, burgled a family house at the `wee hours’and stole valuable property.

He said the offence contravened Section 1(a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms Special Provision, Act, 2004.

The prosecutor told the court that he had made duplicate copy and forwarded the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), for legal advice.

The plea of the accused persons was not taken due to the nature of their offence.

Their defence counsel, Mr Tunde Falade sought for adjournment pending the outcome of legal adivice from the office of the DPP.

In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs Doyin Akosile condemned the high rate of armed robbery in the state and remanded the accused in prison custody.

She adjourned the case till July 11, for further hearing. (NAN)
