ABUJA – A 44-year-old driver, Chinedu Ogene, on Tuesday appeared in a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Wuse zone 2, Abuja, for allegedly giving false information to the police.
The prosecutor, Cpl Umar Ango, told the court that on March 25, the accused lodged a complaint at the Wuse
Divisional Headquarters, Wuse Zone 3, Abuja.
Ango told the court that Ogene had complained that his daughter, Ada, was missing.
He said that police investigation, however, showed that the wife to the accused person, Ekene Ogene, who lived in Anambra, had given out their daughter as a domestic help.
According to Ango, their daughter was given to work as a help to Mrs Doris Anams of Works and Housing, Wuse 2, Abuja, on a monthly salary of N5,000.
He informed the court that this was also done with the consent of the accused.
Ango said that the accused was standing trial over alleged offence of giving false information in contravention of section 178 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, he is liable to two years in prison or with fine.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
The judge, Anthony Ogboi, admitted the accused to bail for N50,000 with one reasonable surety who must reside within the court’s Jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case until April 7 for hearing. (NAN)
