Abuja – The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) says it does not deny the supply of electricity to any of the customers under its catchment areas as being speculated by some of them.
The Board Chairman of AEDC, Amb. Shehu Malami, dismissed the speculation at the distribution of the free mass metering project in Abuja on Thursday.
“The feedback we are getting from some of our customers is that AEDC denies them electricity at the expense of Abuja.
“Again this is not true. I also hear agitations from states where power facilities are located, accusing AEDC of neglecting them.“
He said AEDC was only a distribution company, as such, could only supply the electricity wheeled to it from the national grid to customers.
Malami said AEDC was currently getting only 11.5 per cent of the power generated from the national grid.
According to him, AEDC does not get any special allocation for hosting any power facility, adding that it does not also get any preferential treatment because it is the DISCO serving the FCT.
He said the company was being treated like any other DISCOs in the country.
On the metering project, he said mass metering of customers would improve the revenue profile of AEDC.
“A consequential outcome of the metering project is that the revenue profile of our company will improve and that will enable us to have greater access to more investable funds.
“The funds will be both from our internally generated revenue and third party sources who are currently very reluctant to increase their exposure to the power sector because of a poor balance sheet.
