ABUJA – A former Director of Sports, Borno Sports Council, Alhaji Kachalla Gana, says football stakeholders in the state are backing Alhaji Bashir Abiso in the forthcoming Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) elections.
Gana, in a telephone interview on Sunday, said the decision was taken at the stakeholders meeting held in Maiduguri on Saturday.
He said Abiso, who steered the affairs of El-Kanemi Warriors Football Club of Maiduguri from 1999 to 2003, has all the credibility and experience to become an NFF board member.
The forthcoming NFF board elections are scheduled for Aug. 26 in Abuja.
“There is the need for the state to be considered and be allowed to produce the board member from the North-East Zone in the forthcoming NFF elections.

“The state’s football stakeholders have already started making contact within the zone, and this is aimed at rallying support for Abiso’s candidature.
“It is a fact that since the establishment of the NFF in 1945, the state is yet to produce a board member.
“However, given its laudable contributions to football in particular over the years, Borno deserves to be allowed to take the North-East slot.
“Abiso, who had served as a board member in the state Football Association, will definitely promote football positively.
“He will work to improve the sport not only in the state, as he has always done, but in the entire zone and the country at large,’’ Gana said.
He then solicited the support of Governor Kassim Shettima of Borno for Abiso financially and morally so as to achieve the desired objective.(NAN)
