Dr Chris Ngige, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in
Saturday’s gubernatorial election in Anambra State, on Sunday threatened that his party would challenge the result of he election at the election tribunal.
Ngige, who addressed newsmen at Old English Hotel in Awka, the
state capital accompanied by the Director General of his campaign
organization, Chief George Muoghalu, also said he and his party
would boycott Sunday’s repeat elections in the 65
polling units in Obosi ward 1, Idemili-South local government area,
where elections could not hold on Saturday due to late arrival of electoral materials.
The APC candidate alleged that the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) conspired with the ruling All Progressives
Grand Alliance (APC) in the state to desenfranchise his supporters by
distributing electoral materials late to areas considered his
stronghold. He also alleged that electoral materials were brought to such
areas between 5-30pm and 6pm without the result sheets, and ,that by
that period all the voters had left the voting centres to their
various homes
Ngige mentioned some of the areas affected by the late distribution of
electoral materials during the gubernatorial election some of which
he claimed were his stronghold to include, Onitsha-North,
Ogbaru, Nnewi-South and Anaocha, alleging further that his agents were
even forced out of some of the polling centres and some of them
manhandled.
