Another round of indictments’ expected in FIFA case

An IRS official revealed there will be more names added to the list of 14 officials already indicted on racketeering, wire and money laundering conspiracy charges

A United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) official is “fairly confident” there will be indictments in the criminal investigation into Fifa.

Nine Fifa officials and five corporate executives have already been indicted with racketeering, wire and money laundering conspiracies, among offences.

The chief of the IRS United in charge of criminal investigations, Richard Weber, said he expected indictments.

“I’m fairly confident we will have another round of indictments,” he was quoted as saying by the York Times.

Weber added: “I don’t think there was ever a decision or a declaration we would go after soccer.

“We were going after corruption.”

Despite the scandal has rocked Fifa, president Sepp Blatter was re-elected on Friday.
