Ibadan – Mrs Ganiat Olawore, the APC candidate for Ibadan South-East II Constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly, on Monday said increased female representation in politics would pave way for an equitable and peaceful Nigeria.
Olawore, who is the only female candidate contesting in the State Assembly election, said this in Ibadan during a skills acquisition programme for no fewer than 300 women and youths in her constituency.
She said that more women participation in politics was imperative for the much needed national transformation and stability.
”There is growing recognition of the untapped capacity of women in leadership positions.
“I hope that my involvement in politics would encourage more women and youths to participate actively in politics and seek leadership positions.
“Studies have shown that more women political participation results in sustainable growth of the society, reduces violence and tangible gains for democracy and greater responsiveness to citizens’ needs,” she said
The three-day skills acquisition programme was organised in partnership with Coolink Integrated Service Limited, and flagged off at Ibadan Grammar School, Molete.
Olawore said that the rationale behind the skills acquisition programme was to address the scourge of poverty by empowering women and youths in her constituency.
Mr Ibrahim Muhammed, the Deputy National Coordinator of Basic Skills Acquisition and Vocational Training in Coolink Integrated Service Limited, said the programme was a social intervention initiative of the Federal Government.
He lauded the APC candidate for solely sponsoring 300 women and youths to participate in the programme.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme featured training on various vocations, including website and blog building, farming and photography.
